Kudos to Civic Con

Recently one of the foremost economists in the world discussed how to apply principles of economics to education in plain terms without the "economese" lingo few can understand. At CivicCOn, University of Chicago scholar John List put forth several takeaways:

As a society, we are missing the mark if we are not engaging children with education at the ages of 3 to 5.

Even if we are reaching children of the above age group, it's for naught if parents are not equally brought into the fold. (Duh.)

Play to your competitive advantage. What's difficult in New York may not be as difficult in Pensacola.

Don't underestimate the influence of spart technology. Cultivate it.

So what should we be focusing on now? Aside from more affordable housing, List encourages efforts to attract a spirit of entrepreneurism to the area pointing to the powerful concept of aglomoration*.

The real takeaway is that CivicCon is one of the foremost ways to become engaged in a city on the move. Hats off the Pensacola News Journal and Studer Community Institute for bringing such great speakers to the area.
