MEET BRIAN

Brian Ranelli, a native and lifelong resident of Pensacola, Florida, has had the privilege of growing up in a place known for its breathtaking beaches. As a dedicated professional and community leader, he takes pride in being an active member of this thriving community. Brian graduated from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Marketing in 2010, followed by a Master's degree in Strategic Communication & Leadership in 2017.

Throughout the global Covid-19 Pandemic, Brian discovered fulfillment through various opportunities. He had the honor of working as a business development expert at Phreesia, a leader in healthcare software and a company listed on the NYSE. Currently, he holds a position as the Director of Growth at Vytalize Health, overseeing a 400-mile territory stretching from New Orleans, Louisiana to Tallahassee, Florida.

In his role as Director of Market Development and VITAS Representative, Brian has had the pleasure of collaborating with physicians, healthcare providers, and the community to advocate for hospice services in Northwest Florida. He finds great satisfaction in discussing hospice care, as he believes it exemplifies a philosophy of care where a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, aides, and chaplains, rally together to meet the needs of patients and their families as they approach the end of life.

Prior to his current role, Brian served as a Major Gift Officer at the University of West Florida, securing significant commitments to support university programs, scholarships, and athletics. He has also gained professional experience at Baptist Health Care, Medi Home Health, and Covenant Hospice, where he worked closely with senior leadership. With his expertise in business development, marketing, and fundraising, Brian has cultivated numerous personal and professional relationships throughout the community.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Brian actively engages in community involvement. He served as a Governing Board Member and mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida from 2014 to 2018. Currently, he is a member of the University of West Florida College of Business Dean's Advisory Council and holds the position of Parent University Board Chair. Looking to make a meaningful impact on education, Brian plans to run for the Escambia County School Board in 2024, driven by his profound joy in supporting children and the community.

Brian finds happiness in the company of friends and family, and his adorable Jack Russell pup, Turnip. He enjoys traveling, even participated in an extended study program in China. He also takes full advantage of the natural beauty and cultural offerings of Northwest Florida, from its stunning beaches to events like Gallery Night. In an addition to being an avid cook and grill master, Brian has a range of hobbies from reading to photography, golf, shooting sporting clays, and many things in between.

Brian on the Issues

My approach to any issue that faces me throughout my tenure will be based on the principles of accountability and efficiency. I believe there is a need to increase accountability on the board through business model techniques, such as strategic planning and budget management practices.

Safety: I am deeply committed to enhancing safety in our schools. I realize that the issue of safety runs deep and is not just about what happens on school grounds but can include issues like long walks on busy roads without sidewalks to get to bus pickup and drop off locations. Moreover, when it comes to in school safety, I believe that we should have local Law Enforcement on every campus in Escambia County.

Curriculum: My father is a lifelong educator dedicated to the noble  mission of learning. My north star will always be pointed towards giving young people better opportunities. This  includes science, technology and math, as well as a focus on the trades, and financial literacy. Education should be based on student’s need and ensure that every high school graduate of Escambia County Schools is competitive in all fields. K-12 curriculum should be focused on academics and not social issues. My vision prioritizes pairing practical skills alongside academic excellence to prepare out students for success in a rapidly evolving world.

Parental Involvement: It is proven that when parents are more involved in their students educational experience that the student is typically more successful. To that end, I am dedicated to fostering stronger partnerships between schools and parents. Implementing a universal communication app for all school and all grade levels will help streamline information to parents affording them the transparency and opportunity to be more involved in their child’s educational experience.

Books: First and foremost, it will be my job to follow all state laws currently on the books. I do not believe any books with sensitive content and imagery should be allowed to be checked out to any student that has not first obtained a permission slip from their parents. This is the same common sense approach we take to all other media in public school and links directly into my core issue of parent involvement. It is not the school districts place to raise a child rather to facilitate their education with parental involvement.

Vouchers: I am a firm believer in, and a product of school choice. While I do support the voucher program I would like to ensure that we are not preemptively taking funds from public schools in Escambia County in coming years. That only families who are actively participating in alternative education methods are obtaining a voucher. In time, my goal is that Escambia County Schools improve to the point we can compete with the rise of the voucher program, while protecting that option for those who still choose it.
